My Favorite Hikes : Wilder Ranch + Photos

Sometimes you just need stop working, put down the cell phone and do something for yourself. It’s always nice to enjoy nature, get some vitamin SEA, and recharge whenever I can. Paradise is never far away after all I do live in Santa Cruz County. Majestic Redwoods, panoramic coastal views and meadows are all within an easy drive from my home in Aptos.

One of my favorite places to visit anytime of the year is Wilder Ranch State Park, located in north Santa Cruz County. (See Photos below) Wilder Ranch has something for everyone with more than 30 miles of trails. On a recent Saturday trip I walked the Old Cove Landing Trail. It happened to be one of the hottest days in Santa Cruz and was very comfortable t’shirt weather. But that’s not always the case during the summer months. I do recommend you always bring a sweatshirt because it can be windy and a bit chilly and during the summer the fog can roll in.

The Old Cove Landing Trail is a 2.4 mile loop, very easy. The coastal views were breathtaking. We saw harbor seals resting on a sun drenched rock , pristine beaches, dramatic cliffs, fields of Rosemary, a fern grotto and a few surprises along bluff. Take a break and enjoy all Santa Cruz has to offer. (see photos of my visit below)

Parking is $10 or you can park along Highway 1 and walk in.
